For this assignment, I chose to do a tutorial on how to put a photo with texture on my face. It was a bit time consuming, but I didn't find it too challenging. I learned how to use the lasso tool, channels, layer mask, and other things involved with photoshop. Working with the layer mask and getting the grass to align with outline of my face was the hardest part. I got frustrated at times, but it turned out well in the end. I was able to work with using the layer mask, which definitely helped me. This was undoubtedly a fun tutorial to do, and I am glad with what I came up with. I came out of this assignment with more knowledge in photoshop.

Nature is probably my favorite thing to take pictures of. I liked the way my photos turned out - I definitely noticed that the exposure in these is better than the exposure in some of my previous photos. Even though the weather was nice, I can tell I improved my skills in setting the ISO, shutter speed and aperture. I also noticed that there isn't much creativity put in my photos, and that's something I want to work on in the future.
For this assignment, I took several photos and merged them to HDR, a balance of underexposure and overexposure. I added presets to 4 out of 5 of the photos, which are captioned above. The overall process wasn't hard to do, but I noticed that even with the end result, the exposure in most of my photos was a bit dark. On the other hand, the photos weren't grainy. Finding the right exposure is something I still need to work on, but I learned a lot in this assignment with aperture.
This assignment was fun to do. I especially liked how the calmness of all my photos turned out.
Finding good contrast and balance in the building was a bit difficult, but I made do with what I got. For me, black and white is definitely something I can always work on. Although I could have done more with this assignment, I am proud of the photos I ended up with. For most of these, I tried taking pictures that had a lot of color. I also aimed for taking the photos at different perspectives and using balance. Along the way, I was challenged by getting the right exposure and keeping the camera parallel to the ground. In the future, I want to practice taking more photos outside, try using a tripod, and work on setting the ISO and aperture in order to get a less grainy, better exposure.
Assignment: to take at least one picture of each of the 9 principles of design/organization: emphasis, proportion, repetition, unity, balance, space, contrast, simplicity and movement. The principles of design are very general, so this assignment allowed me a lot of freedom. Unfortunately, I was unable to get a good photo representing movement. It was difficult finding time to decide what to do for that. The rest of the assignment, however, proved pretty manageable for me. In the future, I still want to improve on taking pictures with better quality and different shutter speeds
I originally took this class, Digital Photography I, to complete part of my technology credit (high school). I initially wasn't looking forward to taking a technology class, because it just seemed boring to me... Nonetheless, I had to take one. "Digital Photography" seemed interesting enough - I always loved to take pictures, anyway. The first day actually went pretty smooth, and I only got more excited about the class, especially after taking some pictures that day! Throughout the course, however, many obstacles came along. I had trouble making time for me to take pictures for the weekly assignments (thanks to Marching Band practice and other clubs). But somehow, I always managed to turn in a decent photo, and more for my blog posts. Photoshop, on the other hand, was a bit frustrating. The first assignment was a breeze, but the second one was a different story. I had trouble using the clone stamp tool, for example. But, with some help and a lot of patience, things started to go smoothly. I can't help but admit that I missed a couple of assignments, though, which brought down my grade a bit. Overall, I can say with confidence that I learned a lot from this class: How to use and adjust the settings on a camera, and use a number of tools in photoshop. I highly recommended my friends to take this Digital Photography in the future, too. For the most part, I had a good experience with this class, and look forward to taking Digital Photography II!
For this project, I took pictures of a couple of my friends, which turned out to be fun. These were taken in one of the orchestra practice rooms; I thought it had decent lighting and a mostly clean, white background. When taking pictures of people, it's sometimes hard to get a good pose of the subject, and can be time-consuming. Nonetheless, this was one of my favorite assignments to do!
This project was based on Macro shooting, which proved fairly difficult for me. Many challenges came along the way - one was lighting. I had to make sure I was using a substantial amount of light in order to take photos in Marco mode, which was particularly frustrating. I was struggling to find decent exposures for the majority of this project. Another problem I came across was getting the camera to focus. I also had to make sure the camera was very still before shooting. However, using a flat surface proved very helpful for this project. On another note, I used a desk lamp up close to the subjects i was shooting for most of my photos. Overall, shooting Macro photos was challenging, but I learned a lot from it! However, I definitely need a lot of practice in this area of photography.
From this post, I learned how to balance light and dark colors. I also took lighting and background more into consideration. This project has inspired me to shoot more black and white photography, as a result.

Welcome to My Blog!
My name is Janessa Dabney. This is my blog for Digital Photography 1 and 2. I originally took these classes to complete my high school tech credit. I chose photography because I have always loved taking pictures, and wanted to improve my photo-taking skills. I have learned a lot so far, but I hope to learn more. I want to work on shooting photos with movement, in macro mode, and better exposure. With that all said, I look forward to using photography in the future. |
